Development Hockey

Development Hockey – Learn to Play

This USA Hockey designed program is a fun and encouraging atmosphere for skaters to learn the “ins and outs” of the game, while developing basic ice hockey skills in a pressure-free, fun atmosphere.

New York Rangers – Learn To Play Hockey

The New York Rangers sponsors a learn to play introductory program, in conjunction with USA Hockey, that teaches new players, ages 5-9, the basic skills of skating, stick-handling, passing and shooting. In addition, children learn about hard-work and commitment on and off the ice. New registrants will receive a brand-new set of custom fitted CCM hockey equipment and Jersey, instruction from New York Rangers staff as well as special appearances from Rangers Alumni.

Once you have successfully completed these programs, you are ready to move in to our Development League. You can learn more about the D-League here.

Development League

Purpose: The D-League at the Rinks at Shelton is the premier developmental hockey program in Connecticut. The D-League focuses on player development in a fun and competitive atmosphere.

Positioning: The D-League is an environment where your child can compete at the proper level and get the focus needed to develop their hockey skills.  This is a low-cost, low-travel option for the player that seeks to eventually play high school hockey but does not have the current skills to play A level hockey or the player that loves hockey but does not have the time to commit to travel hockey. Also, the D-League is perfect for the travel hockey player that has been “pigeonholed” as a forward defenseman and would like to expand their game beyond their current comfort zone.
