Development Hockey
Development Hockey – Learn to Play
This program is a fun and encouraging USA Hockey sanctioned atmosphere for skaters to learn the “ins and outs” of the game, while developing basic ice hockey skills in a pressure-free atmosphere.
New York Rangers Learn To Play Hockey
Learn to play is a USA Hockey designed introductory program that teaches new players, ages 5-9, the basic skills of skating, stick-handling, passing and shooting. In addition, children learn about hard-work and commitment on and off the ice. New registrants will receive a brand-new set of custom fitted CCM hockey equipment, instruction from Rangers staff as well as special appearances from Rangers Alumni.
Once you have successfully completed these programs, you are ready to move in to our Development League. You can learn more about the D-League here.
Development League
Purpose: The D-League at the Rinks at Shelton is the premier developmental hockey program in the state. The focus is on player development in a fun and competitive atmosphere.
Positioning: The D-League is an environment where your child can compete at the proper level and get the focus needed to develop their skills. This is a low-cost, low-travel option for the player that wants to eventually play high school hockey but does not have the current skills to play A level hockey. Also, the D-League is perfect for the travel hockey player that has been “pigeonholed” as a forward and defenseman and would like to expand their game beyond their current comfort zone.
Youth Hockey League
Our youth hockey leagues provide a fun and competitive atmosphere that focus on player development. The youth house hockey program offers weekly weekday practices and weekend games with certified coaches and referees. Length of seasons, dates and times for practices and games may vary depending on enrollment. Check out our Youth Travel Hockey teams!
